The Kiwanis Club of Davis is responsible for the display of the United States of America Flag throughout Downtown Davis on national holidays. We have been performing this community service since 1983 when Red Francisco, a fondly remembered founding member of our Club, started the Flag Project. We wish to continue performing this valued community service for many more years to come. Kiwanis signs up businesses in the Downtown Core Area and place as many flags as possible in that area on the following national holidays: Martin Luther King’s Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans’ Day.
Weather permitting, the flags will be put out around sunrise on the holiday and taken down before sunset the same day. For an annual fee, our Kiwanis members provide American flags in front of businesses, usually in the grass area by the sidewalk. The annual fee is $30 per flag. Business owners who wish more than one flag will pay $10 for each additional flag, e.g., one flag - $30; two flags - $40; three flags - $50; etc. The funds collected pay for the flag project expenses. Any remaining funds benefit those community organizations/activities supported by the Kiwanis Club of Davis.
Business owners interested in the Kiwanis Downtown Davis Flag Project should contact
